FSPDS is a homebrew application that allows playback of flipnote animations created with the Flipnote Studio DSiWare on the older DS and DSLite hardware. FSPDS requires a FAT32 filesystem in order to run properly. This is where it loads flipnotes from and stores cache and configuration data. That limits the usability range of this app to original hardware with flashcard or CFW and a few emulators with very specific settings that enable FAT emulation.
However, we can use NitroFS to create a read-only filesystem image that is appended to the end of the NDS file. This removes the need for an external filesystem because all the files are in the ROM itself, therefore you can bring your flipnotes on a wider variety of emulators. One downside of this method is that you need to rebuild the entire application whenever you want to edit your flipnotes collection.
I wrote this simple tool that creates a NDS file containing all the PPM flipnotes you drop in the box below. Press the green button to download your NDS file. Now, try run it and enjoy!
